Why CRCA?

Chesapeake Racer Cruiser Association (CRCA) was formed to promote a more equitable rating system for cruisers and club racers seeking opportunity to win more “SILVER” by moving away from a “single rating model” or expensive and complicated professional rating systems aimed at high-end modern racing boats.

CRCA uses handicaps based on a science-based velocity prediction program or VPP using tank tests, real-world data, and computer simulation to create the fairest handicap system currently available. This rating rule, EZ, is continually developed and maintained by Offshore Racing Association (ORA) allows a wide range of boat designs to compete fairly together, alleviating much of the frustrations involved in other racing handicap systems.

In all, ratings are generated for 5 wind strength (Very Light, Light, Light/Med, Medium, Heavy) and 6 race course geometries.

No longer lose races because the race conditions were not in your favor….compete with today’s modern light deployment sleds with confidence.

Older heaver designed boat are given favorable time allowances when sailing in a light breeze against lighter modern designed boats. Additionally, that same older heavier boat will also be given a favorable time allowance when sailing a primarily downwind race in a stiff breeze against boats that will surf in such conditions.

Level the playing field….win more races….knowing that older club racer/cruiser designs can compete fairly based on physics, not on single observed performance ratings.
